Vitamins

Vitamin A

'A' vitamin is essential for the preservation and growth of certain cells in the body. Mainly for preserving health of eyes. Essential for development of bones, teeth etc. 'A' vitamin can be foud in milk, leafy vegetables, cabbage, carrots and fruits, cod-liver oil.

Lack of A vitamin causes abnormility in sight, bones, slackening of the growth of body.

Vitamin B

In this group there are B1, B2, B6, B12 vitamins, which are essential for causing appetite, general growth, nervous system, eyesight and skin. This group of vitamins is found in yeast, milk, wheat. Vegetables, cereals, meat, fish are also the sources for this vitamin B group.

Lack of this B group causes a disease called Beriberi, cracks in the skin, Lack of B vitamin causes Anaemia

Vitamin C

Vitamin C enhances the resistance power of the body and makes vital contriburtion in the formation of teeth. It heals wounds. C vitamin helps in keeping the cells connected to one another. Sweet and citrous fruits, gooseberry(amla), guava, melon, pineapples, potatoes, cabbage.

Lack of 'C' vitamin causes a disease called Scurvy, osteoporosis of bones, weight loss and infertility.

Vitamin D

The vitamin is essential for the growth of the body. Sunlight is the best source of this vitamin and can be gained from milk, eggs, fish-liver oil. Deficiency of this D vitamin causes osteoporosis of bones and children develop a diseases called rickets.

Vitamin E

The E vitamin is essential for fertility. It also strengthens red blood cells and prevents the disintegration. Lack of vitamin E may cause infertility. Sources: dry fruits, milk, vegetables oils, eggs.

Vitamin K

K vitamin is essential for producing Prothombin- a substance necessary for coagulation of blood. Lack of K vitamin causes profuse bleeding even after minor injury as blood coagulation is stopped due to lack of prothombin. Sources: Animal levers, cauliflowers, Soyabean, green leaf etc.
