Diet for High Blood Pressure Patients

The major cause of the deaths in west is raised blood pressure and related diseases. The increased risk of heart diseases or cardiovascular diseases is because of the hypertension. Although there are many factors like stress levels, obesity, life style etc., the root cause is the diet.

People with high blood pressure levels, e.g. > 120/80 and <140/90 need to change their diet plan with other factors like exercise, some basic life style changes. Diet plays a vital role in lowering blood pressure levels. The very first thing such patient must obey is to take with a pinch of salt. Sodium levels need to be lowered in the body. Any food with high sodium content should be strictly avoided.

Reducing the consumption of salt will help keep the sodium levels down and potassium-rich food items should be consumed so as to have greater K-levels. One should choose the food items with low sodium content, and aviod any food containing the ingredient Na-Sodium. e.g. Sodium sulphate, sodium hydroxide, sodium nitrite etc.. should be avoided. Cured and smoked meat, many canned soup, stock cubes and condiments are sodium rich, avoid those.

High blood pressure levels give rise to all kinds heart risks due to high sodium levels. Stop adding salt to food items and increase the intake of potassium-rich food. e.g. Banana, oranges, watermelon, potato. Experts advise to lower the high blood pressure levels without taking drugs.
