Mediterranean Diet
The Mediterranean diet leans mostly on plant proteins for nourishment. This diet is based upon the cuisines of the Meiterranean. It is considered as a high energy, low fat diet. Bread contributes as the major part of this diet and is usually eaten in the form of pita bread. Studies reveal that people who belong the region have a low rate of chronic disease and illness, which encouraged the development of this diet.
The Mediterranean diet requires the dieters to eat fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, pasta, whole grains, rice and seeds. Olive oil is also found popularly among most of these meals, as it is a main ingredient in food preparation. (i.e.the meals can be quite high in fat content. If an individual isn't careful, such a high intake of fat can lead to obesity). Also dairy products like cheese and yogurt are consumed in low to moderate amount. Though animal proteins are included, are consumed in lesser amounts as compared to plant proteins.
