Pain in Joints

Pain in joints is usually a result of ageing which is called 'Arthritis'. There are two types of arthritis

1. Osteoarthritis 2. Rheumatoid arthritis

The osteoarthritis is a degenerative condition that causes stiffness and pain in the joints. In developing countries where people work hard throughout their life, this type of arthritis is a much less common problem. Unlike osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory condition and this causes swelling of joints causing more pain. The reason for this type of arthritis is high-fat food and high-cholesterol intake.

How vegetarian diet can help you in prevention of inflammatory arthritis.

Some experts believe that the diet for people suffering from arthritis should contain no animal products and almost no kinds of fats and oils. In some people eliminating certain highly allergenic plant foods, such as wheat, corn, and citrus fruits may help the patient.

Some relief is generally obtained by consuming fruits containing C vitamin e.g. blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, kiwi fruit, peaches, mango. Vegetables also help in providing some relief from arthritis. Researches show that vegetarian diet for such people gives great results in the treatment of arthritis. Vegetables with high Vitamin A (beta-carotene) and Vitamin C. Carrots, squash, sweet potato, spinach, kale, collard greens, brocolli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts help the patient in getting rid of pains in the joints.

In fish dish, one can have Rich omega-3 essential fatty acids and high in Vitamin E, like salmon, mackerel, sardines, herring, tuna and trout. Unsalted nuts, like walnuts, brazil nuts and almonds, and seeds like sunflower, linseeds and pumpkin seeds. These nuts are rich in fatty acids and E-vitamin. Pulses and Grains- lentils, chick peas (garbanzo beans), brown rice, whole wheat bread.

Diet should contain anti-inflammatory foods for the treatment of arthritis. e.g. Turmeric, ginger, garlic and apples.
