HealthDigestionDigestive SystemOur digestive system is a series of hollow organs joined with a twisting tube. This tube extends from mouth to the anus. It consists of a lining, called 'mucosa'. Mucosa contains tiny glands that produce juices to help digest the food we take. These glands reside at mouth, stomach, small intestine this helps to digest food as these glands create the juice. The lever and the pancreas produce digestive juices. These two organs are solid and juice is sent through small tubes from these organs to intestine. It is obvious that other organs e.g. nerves, blood etc. play a major role in digestion of the food item that are consumed. For nourishing, our food items should be transformed into small molecules of nutrients so as to get absorbed by the blood and thus carried to the body via cells. Process of DigestionThe digestion process for various items is a little different but basic way of digestion process is as follows. Digestion involves the mixing of food, its movement through the digestive tract. The chemical breakdown of the large molecules of food into smaller molecules is then done so as to help blood absorb the nutrients. Digestion begins in the mouth, when we chew and swallow, and is completed in the small intestine. |
