Weight Loss

Rate Of Weight Reduction

The questions faced by fat persons' doctors have to frequently face some questions like 'in how many days will all my excess weight be reduced? In how many days will my body become proportionate'?
Human nature is indeed very strange. Usually a person does not care for his body for a number of years and allows fat to accumulate. Then suddenly one fine day he wants to get rid of those layers of fat overnight. He wants to achieve a miracle of reducing 8 to 10 kg in a month, instead of reducing it in a normal way i.e. reducing 4 to 5 kg in a month.

The important thing to be understood here is that we have to discard only the excess fat from the body and protect other useful cells of the body instead of becoming a victim of malnutrition. It is indeed very difficult to provide an accurate estimate of the exact rate of weight-reduction. Some times, in the beginning, the amount of water and fluids in the body may go down quickly and there fore it appears that the weight is reducing fast but after three to four days the rate of weight-reduction decreases.

In short, there is high rate of weight-loss in the beginning and it slows down afterwards. However this slow rate is maintained afterwards. During the initial stages of dieting, those who live a sedentary life are generally advised to eat an 800 to 1000 calorie food during the entire day and those engaged in the manual jobs are advised to take 1200 to 1500 calorie food. The daily diet plan on this site suggests 1000 calories. Those who follow that plan can hope to reduce about 4 to 12 pounds in a month's time.

People suffering from heart disease, high blood pressure or diabetes are generally advised to lose weight. They should never undertake a speedy weight-reduction program. It is wise to keep in mind that weight cannot be reduced for some immediate or short-term gain. Maintaining the reduced weight is more important than the rate of reducing the weight. In conclusion we have only to say that undue haste is not advisable in reducing the weight.
